What Personal Data We Collect and Why We Collect It
Comments
When visitors leave comments, we collect the data shown in the comments form, plus the visitor’s IP address and browser user agent to help with spam detection.
An anonymized string (hash) of your email may be sent to Gravatar to check if you use it. Gravatar’s privacy policy: https://automattic.com/privacy/
After your comment is approved, your profile image (if any) is public in the context of your comment.
Media
If you upload images, avoid uploading images with embedded location data (EXIF GPS). Visitors can download and extract location data from images on the site.
Contact Forms
Information submitted through our contact forms (e.g., name, email, message) is kept private and confidential. It is stored on our email server and is not shared with third parties.
Newsletter Subscriptions
If you subscribe to our newsletter, we collect your email address (and optionally your name) to send editorial updates. We use a reputable email service provider (e.g., Mailchimp, Beehiiv, ConvertKit—update as applicable). You can unsubscribe at any time via the link in each email. The provider’s processing is governed by its own privacy terms.
Analytics
We use privacy-respecting analytics to understand website usage (e.g., page views, referrers, device/browser type, approximate region). Analytics are used in aggregate to improve content and user experience and are not used to identify you personally. If we use a third-party analytics vendor, their processing is subject to their privacy policy.
Cookies
Comment convenience cookies: If you leave a comment, you may opt to save your name, email, and website in cookies for convenience. These last one year.
Session & preference cookies: If you have an account and log in, we set temporary cookies to check cookie support, plus cookies for login and display preferences.
Login cookies last two days; display preference cookies last one year.
Selecting “Remember Me” keeps your login for two weeks. Logging out removes login cookies.
Editor cookie: If you edit or publish an article, a cookie (no personal data) storing the post ID may be set for one day.
Consent & advertising cookies (if applicable): If we run ads or personalization, a cookie banner lets you manage consent.
Embedded Content from Other Websites
Articles may include embedded content (e.g., videos, posts, images). Embedded content from other websites behaves exactly as if you visited the other site directly. These sites may collect data, use cookies, embed third-party tracking, and monitor your interaction (including if you’re logged in there).
Advertising & Affiliate Links (If Applicable)
We may display advertising or include affiliate links to support our work. Clicking an affiliate link may place a tracking cookie so the merchant can attribute any resulting purchase. We do not control third-party tracking. See the advertiser/merchant’s privacy policy for details. We do not sell your personal information for money.
Log Files
Like most websites, our servers may log standard information (IP address, user agent, referring/exit pages, timestamps). This helps ensure security, prevent abuse, and diagnose site issues.
How Long We Retain Your Data
Comments: Retained indefinitely to recognize and auto-approve follow-ups.
User accounts (if any): We store profile data users provide. Users can view, edit, or delete their personal information at any time (username cannot be changed). Site administrators can also view and edit that information.
Newsletter: Retained until you unsubscribe or request deletion.
What Rights You Have Over Your Data
If you have an account or have left comments, you can request:
An exported file of the personal data we hold about you, and
Erasure of your personal data.
These rights do not include data we must keep for administrative, legal, or security purposes.
How to submit a request: Use the form on our Contact page or email
Where We Send Your Data
Visitor comments may be checked through an automated spam detection service (e.g., Akismet).
We do not sell, rent, or share your personal data with third parties for their direct marketing.
Legal Bases for Processing (EEA/UK Visitors)
Where GDPR/UK GDPR applies, we process personal data on the following legal bases:
Consent (e.g., newsletter, certain cookies/embedded services)
Legitimate interests (e.g., site security, fraud prevention, analytics in aggregate)
Contract (e.g., creating and maintaining a user account)
Legal obligation (e.g., compliance with applicable laws)
You may withdraw consent at any time (e.g., via cookie preferences or the unsubscribe link).
California Privacy Disclosures (CCPA/CPRA)
If you are a California resident, you have the right to:
Know the categories of personal information collected, sources, purposes, and disclosures;
Request access, correction, or deletion of your personal information;
Opt-out of “selling” or “sharing” personal information (as defined by California law).
We do not sell personal information for money. Some advertising or analytics cookies may be considered a “sale” or “sharing” under California law. You can manage cookie preferences via our consent banner or contact us at [your privacy email].
International Data Transfers
We may process and store information on servers located outside your state, province, or country, including in the EU/EEA, UK, and/or the United States. Where required, we use appropriate safeguards (e.g., Standard Contractual Clauses).
Data Security
We use SSL encryption and appropriate technical and organizational measures to protect your information. No method of transmission or storage is 100% secure; we work to protect your data but cannot guarantee absolute security.
Children’s Privacy
GenAIDigest.com is intended for a general audience and is not directed to children under 13 (or under 16 in certain jurisdictions). We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has provided personal information, please contact us to request deletion.
Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy periodically. Changes will be posted on this page with an updated “Last updated” date.
